Congratulations to the Sara Matthews Scholarship recipients

The Sara Matthews Scholarship, awarded by International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), is granted to deserving undergraduate international students of Sophomore or Junior standing at UC Santa Cruz to help with educational costs. Selected international students received a scholarship up to $4,000 applied towards their Spring tuition.

What is your favorite thing to do or be involved in at UCSC?

My favorite thing in UCSC is to find some hidden policies/ places/ organizations. Such as we can have a DIY major (independent major). And because we are studying in a forest, we have a lot of secret places such as Buddha shrine ruin. I like to find these things.

What is your favorite thing to do or be involved in at UCSC?

I am committee member of project-designing department in Chinese Student Scholarship Association, a mentor in International Mentorship Program, and physics tutor in Learning Support Services. Also, being a "survey slug" for beach survey.

What are your favorite things to do or be involved in at UCSC?

I love spending time in the printmaking studio, developing new art projects, and working with friends. I recently became a studio monitor and like helping new printmakers with their work, as well as serving as part of the monitor team to keep the studio running smoothly. I also enjoy long walks around campus, going to the gym, and taking part in the Art Department's Open Studio event, at the end of every quarter.

What are your favorite things to do or be involved in at UCSC?

My favorite things to do at UCSC have to be collaborating with my colleagues in film projects. Checking out huge camera gear from the Film and Digital Media (FDM) department reminds me how amazing it is to be a film student at UCSC with the tremendous amount of resources provided for us. FDM students at UCSC all share unique and diverse creativity, working together, I can enjoy making films as well as learn from my colleagues.

What are your favorite things to do or be involved in at UCSC?

I’m involved in two on-campus film organizations, Film Production Coalition and On The Spot. I enjoy spending time and making films with the people I met there, hiking around campus, exploring nature, and photography are also some of my favorite things to do at UCSC.

What are your favorite things to do or be involved in at UCSC?

My favourite thing to do on campus is definitely working in my lab in Sinsheimer. I love the engaging, scholarly environment. The building is packed with amazing people and I always find myself having stimulation conversations with people from the ranks of janitor to department chair.
