International Frosh Orientation

Please note, all first-year international undergraduate students are REQUIRED to attend International Frosh Orientation. Students who attended orientation during Summer Academy International are also required to attend International Frosh Orientation.

About

International Frosh Orientation is an orientation program designed for international students and run through the Division of Global Engagement, which is home to International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).

Registration

Students are not automatically registered for International Frosh Orientation. All new international undergraduate students are required to attend International Frosh Orientation. Please check back for registration information in the spring. 

Program Dates

  • Move-in on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019.
    • Please arrive on campus and check into your on-campus residence between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Global Leaders (student leaders) will be there to welcome you and assist you with move-in.
    • Optional airport pick up is available for an additional fee.

  • International Frosh Orientation: Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 to Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019
  • Optional Beach Day to be determined. No fee.
  • Optional San Francisco Day Trip to be determined. Additional fees apply.

Parents are invited to attend a special half-day Parent Program on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019.

Cost

  • International Frosh Orientation Fee: $400
  • 3-day Early Arrival Housing Fee: $160.50
  • Optional Airport Pick Up Fee: To be determined
  • Optional San Francisco Day Trip Fee: to be determined

Fees will be posted to student accounts in October (housing fees may post earlier).

MONDAY: Arrival and move-in

TUESDAY: Official program begins

  • 8:30 - 9:15 a.m. - Check in with your Global Leader
  • 9:15 - 11:30 a.m. - Community-building activities
  • 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. - Lunch with your Global Leader
  • 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. - Official welcome by Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education / Interim Vice Provost of Global Engagement and Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
  • 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. - Maintaining status presentation
  • 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. - International student resource fair and ice cream social
  • 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. - Free shopping shuttles to Capitola Mall (optional)
  • 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - Dinner at Dining Halls

WEDNESDAY:

  • 8:15 a.m. - Rachel Carson/Oakes and Kresge/Porter check in with Global Leaders
  • 8:30 a.m. - Colleges 9/10, Crown/Merrill, Cowell/Stevenson check in with Global Leaders
  • 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. - Analytical writing placement exam
  • 10:00 - 12:00 noon - Optional activities and lunch at Dining Halls
  • 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. - Health Services presentation
  • 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. - Academic advising with your College Adviser
  • 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. - Optional activities
  • 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. - Dinner at Dining Halls
  • 7:00 p.m. - Meet your R.A. (Residential Assistant)

THURSDAY:

  • 8:15 a.m. - Rachel Carson/Oakes and Kresge/Porter check in with Global Leaders
  • 8:30 a.m. - Colleges 9/10, Crown/Merrill, Cowell/Stevenson check in with Global Leaders
  • 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. - Culture Session 1 
  • 9:55 - 10:40 a.m. - Culture Session 2 
  • 11:00 - 12 noon -  Academic Integrity Presentation 
  • 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. - Final announcements and program close
  • 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. - Optional Activities

FRIDAY: Optional beach day or downtown exploration

Following Weekend: Optional San Francisco Day Trip (additional fees apply)
